Acronis backup features
Protect every workload with the backup method that suits it, and recover in whatever way gets you running fastest.
Image & file-level backup
Back up whole machines, individual disks or selected files and folders – and restore at any level from the same backup.
Continuous data protection
Track changes to critical applications and files continuously, so nothing created between scheduled backups is lost.
Immutable backups
Lock backups for a retention period so they can’t be encrypted, altered or deleted – even with stolen admin credentials.
Multi-destination backup
Send copies to Acronis Cloud, local disk, NAS, network shares and S3-compatible cloud storage to follow the 3-2-1 rule.
Backup validation
Checksum verification plus automated boot checks – including AI-assisted screenshot validation – prove backups will restore.
Rapid recovery
Run a backup as a virtual machine, fail over to a safe restore point and use runbooks to orchestrate recovery.
Application-aware
Consistent backups of Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange and SharePoint, with granular item recovery.
Agent or agentless VMs
Protect virtual machines at hypervisor level or with an in-guest agent – your choice per workload.
Safe recovery
Backups and disaster recovery replicas are scanned for malware and vulnerabilities before they’re restored.
Why Acronis Cyber Protect replaced Acronis Backup
Attackers now go after backups first. Acronis Cyber Protect closes the gap between your security tools and your backup software, so detection and recovery work together.
- AI and behaviour-based anti-malware and anti-ransomware
- Exploit prevention and URL filtering
- Vulnerability assessment and automated patch management
- Fail-safe patching with a backup taken before every update
- Malware scanning of backups stored in Acronis Cloud
- Security components install only when enabled – backup-only deployments are supported
Endpoint management
Asset discovery, hardware and software inventory, scripting and remote desktop.
Performance monitoring
Machine-learning based monitoring flags unusual behaviour before it becomes downtime.
Collaboration protection
Security for collaboration tools used across your business.
Compliance
Acronis publishes compliance information covering GDPR, NIS2, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 – ask us for current documentation.

Acronis Backup FAQs
Is Acronis Backup the same as Acronis Cyber Protect?
Acronis Cyber Protect is the evolution of Acronis Backup. It includes all the backup and recovery capabilities businesses relied on in Acronis Backup and adds integrated cybersecurity and endpoint management. Security components are optional, so you can still deploy it purely as backup software.
Which editions of Acronis Cyber Protect are available?
Acronis Cyber Protect is offered in Standard, Advanced and Backup Advanced editions, with optional add-ons such as disaster recovery. We'll recommend the edition that fits your workloads and requirements when you request a quote.
How is Acronis Cyber Protect licensed?
It is sold as a subscription per protected workload – for example per workstation, server or virtual host – with Microsoft 365 licensed per seat. Some subscriptions include an allowance of Acronis Cloud storage.
Can Acronis back up VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines?
Yes. Acronis supports agent-based and agentless backup of VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, plus Nutanix, Proxmox, Citrix Hypervisor, Red Hat virtualisation, Scale Computing HyperCore, Virtuozzo and Azure VMs.
Can I store Acronis backups in my own cloud storage?
Yes. As well as Acronis Cloud and local or network storage, Acronis Cyber Protect can write backups to public cloud and S3-compatible object storage. Ask us about UK-hosted options.
